We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Microsoft announced a few days ago that all Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Microsoft 365 Business Premium customers will be switching from their current Outlook to the new Microsoft “New Outlook”. Customers using Enterprise licenses and/or Apple Mac devices are not affected. These are currently spared. Starting January 6, 2025, the “New Outlook” will be switched as standard for Microsoft 365 Business plans. If no action is taken, this change will be initiated automatically by Microsoft.
Our recommendation for the new Outlook
We are of the opinion that the new Outlook is unfortunately not yet mature enough for everyday use by “normal” users. Based on various feedback from customers and other IT partners, we recommend that our customers remain on the “old” version, which will be supported by Microsoft until at least 2029. So there is really no need to rush. We understand that Microsoft wants to get rid of the “legacy” burden and will probably continue to push for this, but at the moment this is more of a gamble than a smart move.
So if a windows user is switched, the user can switch back directly in Outlook at any time.
Then simply skip the feedback after the controller and ignore it.
What can I do to prevent the users from being changed?
Essentially all Windows devices are affected. Iphones/Android, Mac devices or Ipad/Android tablets are not affected. To prevent users from being forced to use “Outlook new”, you can proceed as follows.
Manual variant – every user would have to do this (requires admin rights on Windows)
Set the following entry for the user via the registry:
Select Platform scripts, Add, Windows 10 and later
Add a name and optionally a description
select script “RemediateOutlookSettings.ps1” from the ZIP that you extracted. Use the other settings as given on the screenshots. Add group “All users” and finish setup.
