Microsoft price increase 2025: Important changes & recommendations

Changes to Microsoft’s licensing and pricing came into effect on April 1, 2025. On the one hand, there was a price increase for certain individual Microsoft 365 user licenses. On the other hand, Microsoft has introduced a 5% surcharge on all Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 licenses when billed monthly. We have put together an overview of the most important changes. These affect both existing and new subscriptions. For existing subscriptions, the changes will only take effect when the monthly or annual licenses are renewed.

Adjustments to the payment method for annual subscriptions

Microsoft has introduced a 5% surcharge for annual subscriptions that are billed monthly. This change affects products such as Microsoft 365, Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, Windows 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform. Customers who wish to continue to benefit from the previous prices should switch to an annual prepayment.

Microsoft price increases for specific products

In addition to the changes to the payment method, Microsoft is increasing the prices for certain products. We have provided you with an overview of the price increase, with the figures in USD for reference. In Switzerland, the price increase is even higher:

  • Teams Phone Standard: Price increases from $8 to $10 per user per month, a 25% increase
  • Teams Phone Calling Plans: For customers outside the USA, UK and Canada: 22 USD per user per month. This corresponds to a price increase of approx. 10-20%
  • Power BI Pro: The cost will increase from USD 10 to USD 14 per user per month, which corresponds to an increase of 40
  • Power BI Premium per user: The price increases from 20 USD to 24 USD per user and month, which corresponds to an increase of 20

These price adjustments apply to new and existing customers at the next renewal after April 1, 2025. Customers with a Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 license are not affected by the increases for Teams Phone and Power BI.

What to do? Recommendations for Microsoft customers

To minimize the impact of these changes, you can review your current subscriptions and payment methods. You can avoid additional costs by switching to annual prepayment.

If you currently have licenses for Microsoft Teams Phone and Power Bi and are affected by the price increase, you can consider switching to a Microsoft 365 E5 suite. Depending on your situation, the price difference may be negligible – but you will then benefit from the additional security features.
