In Microsoft Teams, escalation is only possible to multiple internal numbers or to one external number. This is not sufficient for comprehensive on-call service.

This Is How the Process Works in Practice (On-Call Service):

  1. An emergency call comes in
  2. The system contacts the first person on your on-call list – whether internally in Teams or on external mobile numbers
  3. The agent answers the call and must actively acknowledge it
  4. If no acknowledgment is received within a defined time (because the agent has no network connection, is busy, or the answering machine picks up), the automatic system takes over

The system immediately forwards the call to the next person in the chain. This process ensures that the call is guaranteed to be answered – an essential safeguard for your service level agreements (SLA).
