Productivity gains and increased security for airsight thanks to Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

airsight GmbH is a renowned and internationally active company in the aviation industry. It offers consulting, engineering, inspection and training services worldwide. Its customers include airports, air navigation service providers, civil aviation authorities, project developers, energy suppliers and other organizations.

Airsight was faced with the challenge of enabling its employees to work efficiently and securely while on the road or from home. With employees spread across the globe and a high demand for secure and powerful IT solutions, airsight was looking for a way to a flexible and scalable solution to effectively support its employees and customers.

We were able to support airsight in its search for a suitable cloud solution and jointly introduce Azure Virtual Desktop as a modern workplace. Azure Virtual Desktop impresses with its security options, corresponding redundancy and scalability, as well as its robustness.

We were afraid that the switch to Microsoft AVD would be very time-consuming for us and would cause major disruptions to our day-to-day business. This was not the case. The implications for our colleagues’ work were marginal.

This is thanks to the great work of TwinCap First. They not only have a command of the technology, but also bring extensive experience to bear on how the AVD infrastructure can be made practical and robust and how the changeover can be best achieved.

Starting point

The company’s IT infrastructure was based on individual physical workstations at its site in Germany, as well as individual mobile devices. However, Airsight did not have a centralized or cloud-based work platform. This decentralized structure enabled employees to manage their systems independently, which was an advantage in a dynamic and diverse working environment.

However, a central, cloud-based work platform was missing, which affected scalability and productivity in an increasingly globalized and networked working environment. In view of the growing demands on remote work, airsight decided to modernize its IT structure and implement a solution that would both maintain the flexibility of individual workplaces and enable efficient central administration.

Challenges

The main problem at airsight was that employees needed to access centralized, data-intensive applications from different locations. The existing infrastructure was not optimally designed for remote work, which led to reduced productivity and security concerns.

The company also needed a solution that was easy to manage and scale to keep pace with its rapid growth.

Solution

As a Microsoft MSP, we have implemented the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) as a central solution for airsight. Azure Virtual Desktop enables airsight employees to access their work environment securely and efficiently from anywhere, without having to forgo single sign-on (SSO) and other security features of Microsoft 365 or Azure.

By utilizing the global Azure network, airsight can ensure high performance and low latency, which is crucial for its data-intensive applications. In addition, new locations and employees in Switzerland and abroad can be integrated without major complications.
